1 2 3 4 5 0. Yeah, fine. Everybody got to get my job and we all ready to go. Yeah. All right. We'll tell you again. All right. Good afternoon, everyone. My name's Elizabeth Espinosa, executive director, communications for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. We thank you so much for being here with us today. In the order of Cedars, we will have today will be L.A. County Fire Chief Darryl OSBI. And then we will have L.A.

[00:01:03.08]
County Sheriff Alex v.n come to the podium. Thank you. Lateral line chief there, largely of the county fire department. Good afternoon. And it was their last day and I'm the fire chief of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Well, thank you for coming here to the days briefing of the Willow incident today. Shortly before 10 o'clock at 9:47 a.m., the Los Angeles County Fire Department received a 9-1-1 call of a potential helicopter down and a brush fire at the intersection of Las Vegas Road and Willow Glen, three in the city, Calabasas in unincorporated Los Angeles County.

[00:01:55.03]
Upon arrival, fire first discovered approximately a quarter acre brushfire that resulted from a crash in the hillside, the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Initial response was 50 pieces of apparatus and fifty six personnel. That consists of paramedic's engine company, heavy rescue truck company, hand crews and aircraft, and a chief officer to oversee the incident. Upon arrival during the incident and upon arrival, the sheriff's department are to the respective departments, entered in a unified command to handle this incident.

[00:02:37.09]
Our firefighters on scene indicated that there was a debris field and steep terrain with a quarter acre of brush fire that was occurring at the time. Our firefighters hiked in to the accident site with their medical equipment and hose lines to extinguish the stubborn fire as it included the brush fire debris from our helicopter. And the fire also included magnesium, which is very hard for firefighters to extinguish because of magnesium reacts with oxygen and water. In addition to our firefighters hiking into the incident, we had one helicopter flying to the incident with firefighter paramedics on board.

[00:03:24.03]
Those paramedics were hoisted down to the incident early into the incident. They did a search of the area for survivors. Unfortunately, all the survivors bore were determined to have perished. Firefighters and hand crews worked to extinguish the fire while carefully preserving the incident for investigation. Currently, this investigation is still on going. I would like to turn this over to my sheriff to continue the press briefing. Thank you, chief. OSBI personnel from lots of Sheriff Saison responded to the scene of the crash site and system, the fire department, and we've established the containment area and now our aero bureau has a handle on traffic or aircraft accidents.

[00:04:25.08]
However, when there's a fatality, then it switches to the National Transportation Safety Bureau, the NTSB and the Federal Aviation Administration, the FAA. FAA is already on scene and assisting. We're awaiting the arrival of the coroner's office to assist in the recovery of the remains. As the chief indicated, there were no survivors. We have a manifest in that case. There was nine people onboard the aircraft, the pilot, plus eight individuals. There is a wide speculation as to the identities are.

[00:04:56.04]
However, it is being entirely inappropriate right now to identify anyone by name until the coroner has made the identification through their very deliberative process and they've made major notifications and next of kin and it be extremely disrespectful to understand that your loved one is perished and you learn about it from TMZ. That is just wholly inappropriate. So we're not going to be going there. We're going away to the corner does our job, and we're assisting the families of those who believe there have been impacted.

[00:05:27.07]
And it's a it's a it's a tough process. But our heart goes out to all of the members that were onboard, all the family of everyone was on board this aircraft and God bless their souls. So at this point in time, we have nothing that we can add until the corner does her job. And we'll be making those notifications when we have the information and we know the next of kin have been notified, then we can release information publicly and you'll be notified in subsequent announcements.

[00:05:56.05]
Sure. There's one thing you can infer that we haven't got confirmation, actually, of nine bodies there at the scene. That is that is our belief. Yes. Thank you. So we realize that that's why there are so many questions. There's a lot of information out there. And again, we understand, you know, we there's a lot of information that's floating, but we certainly have a responsibility and obligation and respect, of course, to the families.

[00:06:18.06]
And this is a very difficult time for us all, for the city. We have the mayor here of Calabasas, also city council. We thank them for being here. And in fact, they wanted to pass our message that up to those in the community that want to gather here and are coming to help us. If you do, you are welcome to join others at the Deandra Park here in Calabasas in the class suites, they are lost souls and lost virgins.

[00:06:40.05]
Also shares information bureau. We will be sending out updates as to when there will be, if there is one, a press advisory out notification of another press conference or any other updates through our Twitter. So please look for that. And again, we thank you so much for being here today. And again, thank you for your time.

[00:06:58.04]
Look at the if we have more, Kara, just quickly on sealing off the area. We know the NTSB has to be there to do that thing. Does the public have been able to get anywhere nearby or is a stretch out? More searchers could be shut down for an indeterminate period of time, remains shut down. Is it coming on every day? Any idea? I can keep it clear from the heavy fog in the air. Oh, no.

[00:07:36.04]
Oh, no, no, no. You gotta help. Unless you want to pay me U.S. dollars, not pencils, I have a suitcase full of spare. So it won't be so close to home. Yeah. The market can't be. Fried's. You can become the podium placed. You come to the podium, please. That's why he's coming back. Let's go back to. Thank you. Thank you. Right. Right. Right. I'm only going to say that I can only speak to I said earlier.

[00:08:57.06]
I'm I'm not going to get. I'm I'm only there. As I said earlier, there are we got a call before 10 o'clock, about nine forty seven that came in as that helicopter down and a small brushfire. Our firefighters arrived on scene, a small brushfire. And there was an aircraft down the ground. Firefighters had to hike into the incident. The firefighter paramedics were on the helicopter, hoist it down to do an investigation of it. Crash scene.

[00:09:29.00]
And there are no survivors. It I got I don't know who made the call. There are no survivors. We know there's no survivors. It's under investigation. And that's all we think we can say.

[00:09:48.01]
On the corner can speak to that upon the review of our policy. What are they going? I mean, what were they got? What was their destination?

[00:10:00.08]
That I don't know that I don't know who was piloting the helicopter. I don't know. Right. I don't know. I really I we really. I just wanted to be regressive because they said it was unclear. I'm not gonna speak anything to anything else this year. Can you ask? Because it's under investigation.

[00:10:21.05]
That's why I talked earlier about the helicopter. They have magnesium on the helicopter and magnesium reacts to water and oxygen when it's burning.

[00:10:37.02]
So it took it an additional amount of time for a for a 16 singers to fire the report. The 9-1-1 call came in at 9:47. It took approximately eight minutes to arrive on scene and then approximately another hour for everything to be extinguished. What they get here?

[00:11:04.02]
I'm just repeating myself. Is it the fact of the matter is that our paramedics did a search and there were no survivors. Survivors.

[00:11:12.01]
I know you didn't get too much into specifics on this for the question. How wide is a debris field in the area that we're talking about? The investigators are going to have to look at it.

[00:11:21.05]
How are they going to be able to see a lot of that area to make sure nobody gets in the brush fires a quarter of an acre and that's about the size of the debris field.

[00:11:34.06]
I can't speak to that. I know the sheriff spoken as I it and hopefully can understand the sensitivity of the next of kin being notified. And we need to make appropriate notifications upon the identification of the passengers. And that's going to take time. And I know that the corner, as people unseen, even acquainted himself, is in route, that they need to do an investigation, that he could do that. Look at the manifest. And we need to confirm that DNA.

[00:12:07.01]
Whatever process that the corner does to confirm the bodies before making an official announcement. And that's least possible.

[00:12:18.02]
We're supposed to be on board. That's still under investigation. Tell us where they are going from here to pass them. I do not have any information. Everyone confirmed when you arrived on scene. I'm being repetitive together. But what I'm going to be repeated again is that unfortunately, when the firefighter paramedics did a search of the area and identify there were no survivors on scene minor, that's undetermined about.

[00:12:48.01]
It's an eight minutes to get to the scene. How long did it take you? So I don't have any information.

[00:12:58.09]
Magnesium, there's still the copper, magnesium is part of the components, but the helicopter is constructed with tell us who owns the character. I don't know. That's an investigation. And they will be released. That's under investigation. They'll be released another time.

[00:13:14.09]
So that's okay.

[00:13:19.04]
I don't know if that's under investigation. So you guys will pick that subject from shares information in a Spanish language interpretation of Spanish, which we have. Once you give me, give me.
