The Around the NFL podcast has unlimited faith in Russell Wilson's comeback.

[00:00:09]

From the Chris Wesling podcast studio, it's Around the NFL. Dan Hans is here, Greg Rosenthal, Mark Sesler, Colleen Wolf Wednesday. I just have to say it right off the bat. I must, we must declare vengeance upon the NFL establishment if they dare to do that again, where we finish a show taping and then major news breaks. I feel like we have been, Mark, very open with the football cognizante about, drop this stuff when we're in our taping window or before, but do not drop it immediately after. Then we're just all annoyed texting each other minutes after we leave the studio. Russell Wilson no longer connected to the Denver Broncos who eat unprecedented deadcap money. We could talk about it now, but I just want to say vengeance declared if it happens again. Moving forward.

[00:01:14]

I couldn't agree more. I would imagine Greg agrees. We have been crystal clear about our boundaries, and they were broken on that day. I had just reached a Mexican restaurant for my post-show meal and had just sat down and made my order. Then it's like we're talking about, do we want to get together and do an emergency news topper? Which is like, I would get why we would do that. We've done it in the past, but it's like, how disruptive, how disorienting. It's really the fault of the lead.

[00:01:44]

What's the order for Mark. I didn't know you eat.

[00:01:48]

I do. I ordered a vegetarian burrito with chips and salsa.

[00:01:53]

Obviously, you got caught in a lie there, and now you're making up a food order on the fly.

[00:01:56]

No, I'm not, but I almost had considered to tell the The server, I might have to put the kibosh on this.

[00:02:02]

I hate this for you. The one time you're going to enjoy food, it gets blown up in your face.

[00:02:07]

It seems of fate.

[00:02:08]

Well, Russ has never forgiven me for predicting his downfall. Roughly, That's fair. Halfway through the 2021 season in Seattle. This is limited. Mistakenly- Perhaps limited. Saying I would take Mac Jones long term over him. Right church, wrong pew there with that take. You're almost there.

[00:02:28]

I was just got a little too specific. We were otherwise dead on.

[00:02:32]

There's a little bit of nick Foll's Super Bowl similarities there that you hammered it, but then added a little extra, and it cost you. It cost you, Mark, that hurt.

[00:02:42]

Sandwiches. Sean Payton, we've called out his manipulation of the media on this show over the years, how often he's very critical of the media when he is the one giving all the sources. So I think he waited for a show to end. He's like, Eric's not going to get upstairs for about 20 minutes. The guys are going to be in their cars. Marco will hit the Mexican restaurant around this time.Let's drop it.A.

[00:03:07]

Hypothetical, Mexican restaurant.Coleen.Yes.85 million.Let's just talk about this now.Okay. 85 million hit dead money over the next two seasons for the Broncos because of the release. In a lot of ways, Connie, it's almost like a five-year mistake, I feel like, for the Broncos, because unless something magical happens at the quarterback position or the roster all of a sudden turns into a juggernaud and they have massive dress, even then, it's almost, do you just eat the poop this year, absorb as much as that as possible, tank, and then try to start fresh? It's on a two-year plan from here.

[00:03:43]

Well, this may go down as one of the worst trades we've ever seen. It's, I mean, it has. But Deshaun Watson, I don't know, that one's pretty bad, too.

[00:03:53]

Sure, but you said one of. One of. It's up there. It's in the top five.

[00:03:56]

The trophy stand or the medal stand, and you could debate Take the order. Herschel Walker, this trade, and Deshawn's there. We're going to talk about Jamal Adams a little bit later, but go ahead.

[00:04:10]

No, this is the two-year anniversary just passed of when this happened. You think about all of the quarterbacks that Denver has tried to bring in. None of them worked. And then they give away so much. Two first-round picks, two second-round picks, a fifth, a bunch of players, too. And then what did they get in return? Russell Wilson, and then the fourth rounder that became defensive in, Uzuari Azurike. Is that how you say his name? Who's suspended right now for violating the gambling policy, so he's not even available. And the fact that the Denver Broncos paid Russell Wilson before they even had to do so. They went ahead and gave him that extension with all of the guarantees doubling down on Russell Wilson just for it to blow up in such a spectacular way in their in my face. I just can't believe that this is the way that the story ended.

[00:05:03]

Do you know when that extension starts? Not.

[00:05:05]

Even yet.This year.

[00:05:07]

Oh, my God.

[00:05:08]

That's the craziest part.

[00:05:10]

It is wild, and there's a thought. There's some revisionist history. It's like, Well, but he wanted the contract, and that was part of the reason. I don't believe it because the trade happened in March. There's an ownership change happening. It was new owner syndrome. The new owners showed up who actually had nothing to do with the Russell Wilson trade. And one of the first things they did, to just be like, Hey, we're Walmart. We got lots of money. We're classy. We're going to give him our star player what he wants. So I don't even buy that you needed to give him that money. And yeah, it would have been worth it for the Seahawks just for that moment where Drew Lock sent the hearts to Gino or whatever that was on the sideland. Because don't forget, Drew Locke was in this trade for Seattle. Not only did they get rid of Russ, they got their starting tackle, Charles Cross. They got a defensive rookie of the Year candidate, Devon Witherspoon. They got Boyi Mafe, who's a nice edge. A couple of other young players that are playing for them in that moment.

[00:06:02]

I would spin positive in one way. Glass that full? Well, because it reminded me, and this is a bit of an odd parallel, but when George Bush decided we're going to go into Iraq, and it became a cluster right away. W. W, yeah. The younger of the two. Where are you going with this? Well, no, just because it was very clear to most thinking people that we were creating an unnecessary problem. It was like, at some point, you can spin out of this and just, Hey, look at I'm the President. I made a mistake on some level. Let's just get out of here and move forward as a country. Instead, it was like, I'm going to get in further and further and further and further.

[00:06:40]

See, I thought you were going down the road of putting up the Mission Accomplished sign on the battleship.

[00:06:45]

That was Nathaniel Hackett's press conference. In a lot of ways.

[00:06:49]

Walmart came in, big bucks. Very exciting. And a corporation can make a huge mistake and just eat the money and move on. And the big banks, they can get bailed out, and just move forward. It's not the same with an NFL team in the way the salary cap is structured. So that's why this is so devastating. I have a buddy in the town I live in that's a massive Broncos fan named his son, Denver, drives around a orange golf cart. I mean, we're talking big time. He told me that he...

[00:07:17]

I can't believe he doesn't have a Ford Bronco. That feels like a missed opportunity.

[00:07:20]

He said he had to go on a bender after the announcement because... Oh, no. This announcement? Yes, because he knew Because he knows this team that he loves is going to have to pay for this for years to come. It's a tough one.

[00:07:38]

Can we check on your friend? Should we check on him?

[00:07:40]

I saw him yesterday. He said he was okay.

[00:07:42]

Now, the way...

[00:07:43]

Orange goes orange.

[00:07:44]

Let's ride. Hold on. Let me just finish one thing because I actually think that what I do like about this very quickly is that Denver is not sticking around for more Russell Wilson. It's going to hurt this year. I like your idea of just doing it all this year if you could.

[00:07:57]

You can't.

[00:07:58]

Or as much as possible.

[00:07:59]

You could spread it over two or three years. So I'm with you. You don't need to do a post-June first cut. Take as much as you can this year. There'll be more, but much less next year.

[00:08:09]

Mark, I want you to finish your point. But can you take more pain this year as opposed to the next year? I'm saying if it's split 50-50, it is what it is. But just absorb it all. It's another year in the middle of Patrick Mahomes' prime.

[00:08:21]

Go ahead. Yeah, I would just say that I know that's huge arrow down on Russell Wilson, where he is right now, and it's incomprehensible that the Steelers or someone are going to sign up for this journey. But Russell Wilson, historically, has been one of the better quarterbacks we've ever covered on this show and won a Super Bowl. Sean Payton, whether you like him or not or how he deals with the media, is a winning coach with a track record in a Super Bowl win. George Payton is the guy still hanging around inside this organization who conceived of this trade, largely. Did he? Yeah, largely because it was before they... Then he went and thought, of all the candidates I could hire as head coach, Nathaniel Hackett sticks out. It's like, GMs don't survive this type of apocalypse, and he's still hanging around.

[00:09:05]

They don't keep their power. I don't think he has power there anymore.

[00:09:07]

But he's there. Yeah, he's still hanging around.

[00:09:09]

He's the one guy that stands out here.

[00:09:11]

I forgot that. Before the trade was made, when Russell Wilson was still in Seattle. It was like people were talking about him as a Hall of Fame quarterback. He had won Super Bowl. Not Greg. A perennial contender. You were first on the scene, Greg.

[00:09:26]

Not first. I think he has a chance to make the Hall of Fame. People a little too dismissive of what he accomplished. What he is now doesn't discount what he accomplished his first eight or nine years, but that's a separate point. I saw this tweet out there saying, Of these four, who would make the Hall of Fame? Who would you put in? If you could only choose one, Russell Wilson, Phil Rivers, Eli, and Matt Ryan, who are all going to be interesting cases.

[00:09:54]

That's not an interesting case. It's a Giants all-time passing leader with two Super Bowl wins over Belichick and braided, including beating the other team.

[00:10:02]

Everyone looks at it. Everyone looks at things differently. I look at the regular season as like, how many times were you a top five quarterback? How many times were you a top 10 quarterback? That's good, too. Eli Manning, we don't need to get it in, but he probably had one season where maybe he could be a top five, maybe two or three seasons where he'd be top 10. Russell Wilson was a top 5 to 10 quarterback for seven or eight straight years, which to me, with a Super Bowl title, he might actually have the best case of all those.I'd probably go.You.

[00:10:26]

Put Russ in?

[00:10:28]

I would put Phil Rivers first on Russ would probably be second.

[00:10:31]

He was also, and I'm looking at a write-up right now where the second season said two disastrous seasons in Denver. The first season was a true disaster with Hackett. Last year was a middling season, wrong side of the Dalton scale, but not the worst quarterback in the league. At that point with Payton now fully, not Patty, Payton, although he is pronounced Payton. That's the other reason we had to go.Oh, we gave him a new name. Kevin something? It's Kevin Sutherland, was it?

[00:10:56]

I believe it was close to that.Eric, do you remember? Not related to Kiefer or Donald.

[00:10:59]

See, for this exact reason. We don't need to lose momentum in a show because it's the Pat and Pat and Patent thing.

[00:11:08]

It gets me every time.

[00:11:10]

It's a disaster. Let's go with Kevin Sutherland, and I'm sure the listeners will correct me. Kevin Saunders, guys. Kevin Saunders. Kevin Saunders is still there and whatever. The latest news, by the way, the update to this, Schefter reported the Broncos have granted Russell Wilson permission to speak with other teams. He doesn't have to wait until the beginning of the new league year. He could do it right now. So 35-year-old quarterback coming off a high-profile failure. I think he should have some market, but not a big one.He's.

[00:11:45]

A tricky case. I don't know as a starter. I'm not sure. I put him number 80 something on the top 101. That was... It feels about right. I was debating whether him or Tana Hill, for instance. I had to take into account the Russell Wilson of it all. Who do I see as just being an easy backup? Because at this point, I think he's a backup. To me, Tana Hill just make... They're both 36. It's similar. To me, he just makes more sense of just a guy you insert there with a 1B with a rookie quarter.

[00:12:14]

Totally agree with you. I was going to say I wouldn't even...

[00:12:16]

It seems a little like a lot. He might expect more.

[00:12:20]

He wants to win two more Super Bowl. That's what he said. So maybe as a backup.

[00:12:25]

But I feel like a straight backup. I put him more in that category just above where it's like the Minchou, Baker, those types where he can be a starter in the right situation, but signed somewhere as a backup, that's not crazy. He's not an entrenched backup. He's not like Sam Darnold, for instance, at this stage. I think he's one step above that. But considering where he was a couple of years ago, it's pretty crazy. And the Broncos obviously didn't see it coming.

[00:12:51]

They can still win, though.Look, the Bucs just made it to theWin what?I don't thinkWhat's the goal here?I think they can have a winning record.

[00:12:59]

Can't win the division.

[00:13:01]

Because they're with the Chiefs and because of the roster right now, it's very unlikely. But the Bucs just ate a very similar deadcap hit for Tom braided and made the divisional round. The Brees contract track the first year he was gone, they were eating that. It didn't go well.

[00:13:18]

But they're in the NFC south.

[00:13:19]

I agree.

[00:13:21]

That compounds the problem here. They have one hand tied behind their back for two years, essentially, in arguably the toughest division. It's bad. It was a big swing. You want your team, you want your favorite team to take big swings. But sometimes...

[00:13:37]

You know one little quick thought that came to mind? It doesn't work. We never learned from this stuff. People were hyping up the Russell Wilson thing. It's like, right now we're talking about the best quarterback that will be available is a late '30s veteran with an Achilles tear, and he's about to sign for major money somewhere. It's like, two years from now, we might be forgetting how that will be lauded.

[00:13:59]

Way to-You really put it on. There you go. Put an exclamation. You put a slammer on.

[00:14:04]

That suggests you don't like my point when I get these comments coming.

[00:14:08]

It's a tremendous way to tie together and shows that you are plugged in.

[00:14:10]

But it's like, I always feel like her cousin, you got to go get him. He's the first chip to fall. It's like, fall where? And let's see how that lands.

[00:14:16]

Great way to punctuate the conversation.

[00:14:18]

I'm happy to help.

[00:14:20]

What it did was it took this topic we're talking about now and it gave it broader context. Yes.

[00:14:26]

I will suggest this morning, and I appreciate when you do this, Greg. You open up our chat client, and Greg will give an initial lineup of notes. Dan, I think you were trying to read this insanely long book, Infinite Jess, by David Foster-Walz. One day. It has a notes and errada section at the end. It's like 160 pages long. That's what this news lineup looked like, and we were through one item.

[00:14:50]

Sesler and I immediately, when we saw each other, we were like, How about the news? A lot of news.

[00:14:54]

You know what? The rust thing is juicy. After that, it's like a bunch of tags and some quick I feel like you guys just share a lot of anxiety.

[00:15:01]

We are the anxiety twins. Everybody relax. We're going to get through the news. Everything's going to be fine. Coming up a little later, and this is going to set everyone at ease. A truth serum will be administered to key NFL figures that allows them to speak their mind in a really sincere way, in a way that you want to hear from athletes and people connected to the sport. That's coming up first. Let's get through the rest of this news before two of the people in the studio have a panic attack. No, I don't believe in space. I'm really religious. I think we're strong right now. I don't think that I'm playing this and stuff like that. I don't know. That is Texas Tech Safety Tyler Owens, who said, if you could hear that, he does not believe planets actually exist. I don't believe in space. I don't think there's other planets and stuff like that. I have an idea to to weed out certain prospects, a test, a cognitive test, if you will. Make sure that element isn't in my locker room. How about that? What do you think about the idea of a test?

[00:16:17]

I feel like that would go over well with the public.

[00:16:20]

Not in his defense, because I don't agree with what he's saying, but he seems to be coming from the world of if everything's just a sim, that the concept of universes and planets and UFOs and everything else is just a simulation.

[00:16:34]

But he's not talking about even UFOs.

[00:16:36]

Well, no, but planets. Other planets. That you'd be looking up it essentially like something that just exists in our imagination.

[00:16:42]

I listened to more of this. He admitted he was in a YouTube rabbit hole and essentially says, Where's the proof? I do my own... He was essentially giving me, I do my own research. I haven't seen the proof on the other planets.

[00:16:56]

No moon landing.

[00:16:58]

He didn't believe it. A lot of people would go down that road as a starting point.

[00:17:02]

I don't need to listen to him.But they're idiots. What I do need to listen to is his agent talking to him after the combo. Well, you fool.

[00:17:10]

I think that would be too harsh to eliminate people with these beliefs because it's not hurting anyone else. The NFL is often too lax in other areas of some behaviors. This seems harmless.

[00:17:22]

Like, Gino Smith noted... A cognitive test. Gino Smith, the noted flat...

[00:17:25]

Back in the day, a flat Earth. I like to think that he's matured.

[00:17:31]

You'd like to think it, but we don't know.

[00:17:32]

He had a real nice broad jump at the combine. So maybe look past the planet stuff, space, where we are in this universe.

[00:17:41]

If I were a roster builder, I would have to take out the red marker there.

[00:17:46]

A lot of red flags. That's fair. That's your team. That's fair. Yeah. Congrats.

[00:17:50]

Are you welcoming him in? Maybe I could educate him. I could save him.

[00:17:56]

I'd also say his delivery was, not tongue-intrigued, but he was playful about it and doesn't think that everyone agrees with him. He's not trying to pound the table saying everyone must agree that there are no planets.

[00:18:06]

Hey, everyone can have their own opinion as long as it's not hurting anyone else. So it's fine in my book.

[00:18:11]

Right, but not when there are facts involved. Sure. There should be a limit. It's not an opinion.

[00:18:16]

Overwhelming evidence, you mean?

[00:18:16]

You could just be wrong. You could be wrong about things. That's fine.

[00:18:19]

All right, the franchise tag deadline has come and gone. And tomorrow is going to be good because we're going to... After all the tags and all the cuts, we're going to take another look at Greggy's free agency 101. And by the way, the free agency, what did we say? 14?

[00:18:38]

Was it 3? 321, maybe.

[00:18:39]

It was 213. I mean, you can't even remember. We're still working on that.

[00:18:42]

How do you know? It could have evolved since then.

[00:18:44]

Yeah, we changed that, and we're continuing to workshop that.

[00:18:47]

That will be landing, when did we decide? On Tuesday night?

[00:18:51]

I think around that time. But that seems appropriate, the time.

[00:18:56]

Anyway, Greg, we're going to visit his list with a very special guest, Mina Kimes, tomorrow, talking over now what is the list look like? Because the legal tampering period is set to begin on Monday. Here are the players that got tagged. A lot of these we knew it was coming, and now it's official. Josh Allen by the Jaguars. They're a great pass rusher. Brian Burns by the Panthers. They're great. They're never going to let him go.

[00:19:23]

Never.

[00:19:23]

They're just never going to let him go.They.

[00:19:24]

Can't do it.It's.

[00:19:25]

Going to be stuck there forever. Lejarius Sneed, now officially tagged, and he's been given permission to seek a trade. We'll see if Sneed's on the move next week. Justin Matabuque of the Ravens. Antoine Winfield of the Bucks. Baker officially headed toward free agency. If they don't get a deal done, the Bear is tagged. Jalen Johnson. The cult's tag, wide receiver, Michael Pitman. That's another name out of the mix in terms of veteran wideouts. The Patriots use the... There's always somebody, I'm going to use the transition tag.

[00:19:56]

There's really not always somebody.

[00:19:58]

It's like the hipster option.

[00:20:00]

It's like five times in the...

[00:20:01]

Oh, you use the franchise tag? I'll use the transition tag.

[00:20:04]

Rest of the League just in awe of that process.

[00:20:06]

Kyle Duger gets that. What is the transition tag again, Greg? Quick refresher.

[00:20:12]

This year, for the safeties, it'll be 13 point something million, and the franchise would have been 17. The difference in that money allows Kyle Duger to shop his wearers around the league. If he can get a contract, it's an offer sheet. Is that what Lamar got last year. And the Patriots have five days to match it. No. Lamar got the non-exclusive franchise tag, which is what most of these players got. In theory, if you wanted to give up two first-round pics for any of these players, I believe they all got the non-exclusive.

[00:20:41]

Yeah, no one got the exclusive.

[00:20:42]

You could. And Lejarius Sneed is the only one that's out there shopping. I think the rest, you assume no one's even going to think.

[00:20:49]

But with Duger, he plays multiple positions, and I felt like it was weird that they gave him the transition tag and obviously gave him the safety one. So it's just the cheapest option.We've.

[00:21:01]

Seen that before.We've.

[00:21:01]

Seen that before. Everything.

[00:21:02]

Players sometimes will fight that through the Union. A lot of tight ends in the past. I feel like not a lot, but it's happened. I want to be labeled as a wide receiver based on my route tree.

[00:21:12]

Jimmy Graham started that whole...

[00:21:13]

Michael Parsons just got called a defensive end, I believe, for his fifth-year option. I do think he might file an appeal because it's less money. Now, the Duggar thingDefensive end is less than-Linebacker right now, which is crazy. That is wild. Well, because they need to make an edge one. The linebackers now include outside linebackers.

[00:21:33]

That'd be so much just better. How are we this far into this?

[00:21:36]

Is it a substantial difference? It must be if he's filing.

[00:21:39]

I am just guessing that he may file one. It's like $3 million.

[00:21:43]

But a lot of teams will sweeten the deal if you do play multiple positions. Obviously, Ducker lined up more at safety than he did at corner, but still.

[00:21:51]

Yeah, he's a safety. I mean, you have to put him at some positions. That would be the position. You do that when you think, Hey, we want We're not going to keep this guy. We think we're offering him a good deal. He's not happy with it. We have a feeling maybe if you go out there, our deal is actually still going to be the best one out there or that we would match it. There's been reports that he's in the 13, $14 million range, but then you don't want to give him the franchise tag because that's 17, and that starts the bidding at a higher number than you want. So that's an interesting one. The rest of the franchise tag, though, were eminently predictable. Everyone locally, nationally thought these were all the that were going to get it, and they all got it. It made my list way less exciting.

[00:22:36]

Prometer players not tagged who remain on Greg's list. Dolphins defensive tackle, Christian Wilkins. Giants running back, Saquon Barkley, both set to hit the market.

[00:22:46]

Wilkins was a surprise to me.

[00:22:47]

Was it? Okay. I thought so, too. There's some whispers that Cleveland, of all teams, would maybe pursue after.

[00:22:53]

He should be thrilled because franchise techs ultimately don't help these players at all. He's going to make way more guaranteed money in the end. I'm trying to think where he is now on my top 101. He's got to be top three now after all these But the Dolphins are just bleeding defenders at this point with Xavier Howard, Jerome Baker, Emmanuel Agba, now Christian Wilkins.

[00:23:15]

Obviously, there's still time to sign him to a deal. Their defensive coordinator. Although it's exactly unlikely. But all of this puts so much pressure on Tua since they're clearing all of this cash to give him the monster deal. Now, I don't know how that defense is going to look next season.

[00:23:31]

They have Ramsey, they have Tyreek, they gave Chubb a ton of money. They do have a lot of big... They want to pay Jalen Philp. So they had to make decisions, but they sneaky are in among the worst situations with the Kappa. He is 28 years old, Christian Wilkins, good player. Number three on the list now, so you should thank them.

[00:23:48]

Prominent cuts, three from the Seattle Seahawks. And we'll start with Jamal Adams, the safety who, during the pandemic, was traded from the Jets for two first-round pics and then given a massive deal. One of the stranger career arcs for Adams, he had nine and a half sacs in his first season with Seattle from the safety position, which was a record. I remember because he got hurt that year, too. He's been injured constantly. For me ever since. But I feel like he had nine and a half almost going into December and then didn't have any the rest of the season or something close to that. Then never had another sac the rest of his time with Seattle, which is absolutely bizarre and dealt with a lot of serious injuries and some off the field stuff and a mess for Seattle. So they were ready to move on. Quandre Diggs also leaving the team. That's a quality defensive back that I'm sure will have a nice market. And as will tight-end Will Disley, another salary cap casualty. So the Seahawks, who obviously had a lot of work to do here, say goodbye to three veterans with Adams as the headliner.

[00:24:49]

I mean, this had a lot to do with it opens up nearly 28 million in cap space, and Adams and Diggs were two of the three most expensive safeties in the league. Adams was a failed experiment. It was like Our final piece of the puzzle, Super Bowl type situation.

[00:25:04]

With Russell Wilson in his prime at the time.

[00:25:05]

It just never, ever worked. They liked Julian Love at safety, and they're going to have probably, with their new coach, that defense could look very different. I trust what they're doing.

[00:25:14]

Yeah, Devon Witherspoon, who they got in that Russell Wilson trade, is a cornerback, but he does a lot of the things that Jamal Adams does, which play from the slot and blitz from there and is better at it. I mean, for a second, I was like, Does Jamal Adams make the top one on one? No, I guess no, of course not. A guy can't stay healthy. Is he still in the league? A guy can't stay healthy and can't cover, really. Quandre Diggs is still a nice player. Seahawks fans swear that he had a much better season than his disastrous PFF ranking would indicate, but he's a guy who was asked to cover for a lot of his teammates. I think he's in the league, Dan, because I think he'll want to keep playing, and absolutely a team is going to give him an incentive-based two or three million dollar contract, something like that.

[00:25:59]

But what a disaster for Adams in Seattle. 33 games he missed out of a possible 67 regular-season games. The fact that all of his sacs were in 2020, it's just such an anomaly, but just so It was such bad luck on his part with the injuries and for Seattle to make that move.

[00:26:19]

I'll always remember him at that Miami Super Bowl at our hotel, right, Dan? That's right.

[00:26:26]

He was throwing that absurd pool party.

[00:26:27]

Oh, my God. That was the third pool party in the afternoon. Afternoon on a Wednesday or whatever.We.

[00:26:31]

Were staying at this...He was living. Very Miami-like hotel.

[00:26:35]

It was like Jamal Adams and 19 women.

[00:26:37]

It felt like we were separated.

[00:26:39]

He definitely stacked the deck. He was in a good spot.

[00:26:42]

No dudes allowed at that.

[00:26:44]

I think it had a bit of...We were having...

[00:26:45]

Did you guys get invited? We were having literally a meeting with her like, laptops that were like, Hi, hello, we're over.

[00:26:51]

We did have her a laptop.

[00:26:53]

We were. We were about 50 yards away from this outrageous... Remember the Le'Shon McCoy invite that went out. This is exactly what I'm thinking of in my head right now. Hot Chicks Only will pick you up on a desolate street corner in a van and take you to the party. I got a feeling Jamal, maybe not as on the radar as Le'Shon did. Shady made a mistake there. I had a similar rounding up of all the hot women in South Beach. We were sitting there, four laptops open, 50 yards away, just pretending to be or trying to organize our thoughts for upcoming episodes. I thought it-It's like every hot girl that's ever existed surrounding Jamal Adams.

[00:27:31]

But the crazy thing was, it was Wednesday at 1:00 PM.

[00:27:34]

That part of it seemed odd to me. It put you in a bit of a tough spot because I think you're obviously in a completely different world with Jamal Adams now. But that, he was the centerpiece of the Jets, and you could tell.

[00:27:44]

It was cool, yeah.

[00:27:45]

But you could tell from 25 yards, the way he was a little bit of a knucklehead. Yeah. He was pre-organized this entire absurd party.

[00:27:51]

So you guys were show planning with your laptops at the pool in Miami?

[00:27:55]

Oh, yeah.

[00:27:56]

It was like it was a hotel empty as pool at noon on on a Wednesday. That's nice. We actually got outside.Yes.

[00:28:03]

That's exactly what it was. It was nice. I remember there wasn't many league figures at the hotel. It's almost like they just put us in a hotel.

[00:28:10]

It started to turn wild, though, in many ways, shapes.

[00:28:14]

He was as the week went on.

[00:28:15]

This is like a real deep cut if you know like '90s hip hop. But if you remember when MCAP Hammer became Hammer and then Gangster Rap took over and he tried to employ a West Coast sound, he put out a single in '95, '96, called Pumps in the Bump. What? Pull up that on YouTube, the original version, the one that got banned by MTV, and then you'll know what Jamal Adams' party looked like.

[00:28:42]

Pretty wild. It's good reference.

[00:28:44]

Mark, you especially, when you have some private time.Me.

[00:28:48]

Look it up.Yes..

[00:28:48]

It's very, yeah, rex and effect.I'll report back. Rum Shaker would be another totem pole of the era.

[00:28:54]

But anyway, I think Adams, he had a really unfortunate, took a shot at a former Jets Beat reporter's wife recently over a tweet that called out his suspect coverage, and general has made bad decisions. I'm just wondering, does he have the right mindset to catch on somewhere? And we shall see in other news, some tight-end news. The Texans signed Dalton Schultz to a three-year contract, so they keep one of their weapons around young quarterback C. J. Stroud. Also out there reported that veteran tight-end Zack Hertz has agreed to a one-year contract with the commanders, according to ESPN. So two veteran tight ends.

[00:29:35]

And your guy, Kyeme Fairband, back with the Texans. Easily the best kicker on the market. Three years, over 15 million, which average salary, He might pass Matt Gay. I'm not sure he's the highest paid kicker. We'll see the guarantee, but he got paid.worth every dollar. There's no tight ends available whatsoever. Dalton Schultz was the best one. I think it's an indication last year. At this time, he got a one-year prove it type of deal, but now the league is flushed with all this cap space, and now he gets a nice three-year-I was surprised that they didn't tag Jonathan Grinard.

[00:30:08]

After getting that deal done with Dalton Schultz, I thought for sure that would be the next step for them, the next logical step. He's coming off a career best season, but they didn't do it.

[00:30:17]

He and Daneo Hunter, who knew he wasn't going to get tagged, had a good day Tuesday because all those pass thresholds got paid, and Grinard is the only really young guy left.

[00:30:27]

Texans have the fourth most cap room, and they are being linked here and there to Calvin Ridley because a lot of the tags went to these wide receivers. There's not that many veteran guys. That's a great draft for it, too. But also, Saquon Barkley to the Texans would make some sense to me.

[00:30:41]

I love that.

[00:30:43]

In other news, still, to me anyway, inexplicable that Bill Belichick could not get one of the seven head coaching jobs this offseason, couldn't find a match. Now he's essentially just hanging out there. Now the various networks are poking poking around Bill. Did you watch the game on Monday? See, that's just a freeze frame there, an audio freeze frame of the type of insight that you're going to get from a Bill Belichick in the studio. But our buddy Andrew Marshawn, who, by the way, It sounds like he got the bag and went from The Post to The Athletic, home of the New York Times. You'd assume a pain in the face. The Athletic is home at the New York Times at this point. I would think Marshawn got A nice raise. He should write an article on himself.

[00:31:32]

He really should. He's savvy. I would assume he got a raise.

[00:31:35]

We tried to have him on the show at the Super Bowl because I love talking media with Andrew, but the timing didn't work out. But we're going to have to get Andrew back on the show soon if we can.

[00:31:45]

Anyway, so here's a scoop. Well, I need to talk about.

[00:31:48]

Lots to talk about. Yeah.

[00:31:49]

Have you been in an Andrew Marshawn article before?

[00:31:51]

I have not. I have not. I would like it to stay that way.

[00:31:55]

Sometimes it's great.

[00:31:57]

Yeah, it could be.

[00:31:58]

Hello, Andrew. I hope you're doing well. Congratulations on the career move.

[00:32:03]

Anyway, according to Marshawn, Belichick has met with CBS and NBC, also in the mix, Payton Manning. He's got that old Omaha Productions that seems to be doing well. They're trying to land him as well. Obviously, it's got a Sean Payton vibe to it, Connie, because Connie, who's our entrenched media force, one of the faces of NFL Network and our Thursday night football coverage and hot damn at the Super Bowl. I mean, you did the stadium anchor of the Super Bowl?

[00:32:31]

That was fun.

[00:32:32]

Isn't it weird how successful? Sometimes-she is. Because we know Colleen so well, and you're a fully formed human.

[00:32:41]

It really might be a stress.

[00:32:43]

I came in here as a child, like a baby. And now I've grown up and I'm going off to college.

[00:32:50]

But what I'm trying to say-I think you still got some maturing to do.

[00:32:52]

What I'm trying to say is that so polished on that Super Bowl coverage. I I don't know why I was tracking this, just because I was in awe of you guys.

[00:33:03]

Oh, damn.

[00:33:04]

Not a single flub. Not like one word ever in five hours of pre and in-game coverage.

[00:33:13]

You should hear the conversation in my own head that's going on as I'm hosting those segments and those shows.

[00:33:18]

Like I said, though, I think we all bring guests to the Super Bowl, and they get to hang out as a group. They were dazzled by the fact that this was happening out on the field during the entire game.I.

[00:33:29]

Was really nervous. Andrew Marshawn.

[00:33:30]

I was really nervous about the Lombardi Trophy hit when I was out there with Larry Zanca. It was Larry Zanca and John Elway, the two-minute warnings. That one, yeah. I didn't have anything prepared for that yet. I kept being like, Okay, it's now the third quarter. The fourth quarter is coming up. What am I going to do for this? Then I just went out and winged it. Thank God, I landed the plane.

[00:33:57]

Well, the craziest... Not to I'm not too sidetracked, but the craziest one was the two-minute warning one in the fourth quarter. Yeah, that one. It reminded me a little of when we were in London and we did our hits, and I threw out there like, Hey, John Harbaugh, let's start being a little more aggressive in the red zone, which you're not supposed to do, apparently, over the loudspeaker. But you guys were over the stadium at the two-minute warning right before the play that would have won the Super Bowl for the 49ers. And you guys were When you're talking about that play, you're like, Hey, coming up, it's a pretty big-time play. I'm just thinking of all the 49ers. I'm sure the coaches aren't exactly locked in, but there's got to be some players on the bench that are listening to this thing about to play the biggest play of their entire life. And there's Connie and Steve Smith being like, Oh, I think they should run it, or whatever you guys are saying. Is that a crazy?

[00:34:48]

I was crazy. I was so in my head about those various hits.

[00:34:51]

I would have, obviously, you stuck me next to Larry Zonka with 80,000 people watching. I was like, Ask him a question. I remember you from Family You were on that once. That's the way of cameo. That was cool, right? It was a full Chris Varly show. Yes, that's my favorite. Remember when you were with Hercel? It was awesome. Anyway, so Bell Check, we'll see. It's going to be a one-year deal, I would think.

[00:35:13]

The Omaha thing's weird, though. How many different cast can they have? The idea would maybe be Pairing him and Saban. That's what they mentioned. You can't just do it on Monday night. They already have the Manning cat and the regular cast.

[00:35:22]

Maybe he becomes a regular on the Manning cast.

[00:35:23]

There is one incredible sentence in this athletic article. Belichick has made it clear he only wishes to to talk about aspects of football that interest him. But this, of course, is a two-way street with whatever. He just wants to talk about the little things that he's into. Wouldn't we all be so lucky just to just open up?

[00:35:41]

Maybe it'll be more like hit pieces now on Bill for wanting to do it his way because, God forbid, the greatest coach of all time might want to do it his way.

[00:35:49]

Well, that's fair. He said he doesn't want to do studio stuff. He said he doesn't want to do studio stuff. If they were going to use him, it would be some pre-taped thing or it'd be some... He's going to get deep on the Xs and O's. But he doesn't want to be sitting up there saying, who's under more pressure today?

[00:36:03]

Or what's your pick in the Sunday? He's not going to make game pics and do a bunch of dopey games.

[00:36:07]

You don't think he's going to do X Factors?

[00:36:09]

God forbid, Bill doesn't have power over Terry Fontanou. I mean, Just remember this moment in time, people. That's all I'm going to say.

[00:36:18]

Fontaineau takes us straight.

[00:36:19]

Nothing personal to Terry, but let's just check out the old CVs. All right. Afternoon Delight. Hit it. Jack's Cut, Darius Williams, Rashaun Jenkins, and Folee Fatukhouss. He's a former jet. I shouldn't know him. Fatukasi, yes. Defensive tackle. Speaking of the Jets, they cut a free agent signing Bust Lake and Tomlinson. Never worked for him. And Cjo Ouzama, another pricey signing, a tight end a couple of years ago. It didn't work. I see a lot of things don't work out. It's true. It's life. Just a heads up. A lot of the signings next week will fail. Panthers cut Dante Jackson and Hayden Hearst. And the Dolphins also say goodbye to Jerome Baker. Anything on that? Anyone?

[00:36:59]

The one thing I He looked up because Tomlinson, I think I liked him going in, and it didn't happen. I PFF like the Jets current offensive line. We know it's a draft need, but in general, it's like... You know how PFF scores? They get into reds and orange, and it just looks like a forest fire. Oh, in their line. You want deep greens and blues, and it's like they've got some work to do.

[00:37:18]

They don't have many guys that they know are playing a certain spot. You got like, Vera Tucker. That's about it.

[00:37:23]

Vera Tucker, who I think is going to kick the tackle. They had Joe Tippman, who had a really nice rookie year. They need two and a left tackle, and that is the only thing they should be focused on with a 40-year-old quarterback coming up.

[00:37:36]

Keep an eye on the Jaguars. Darius Williams played really well for them last year, and they cut him just to open cap space. They just feel like a team that's either all or nothing, and they feel like they might be pretty noisy. In the next week.Well done.Nailed it.

[00:37:53]

After the break, Truth Serum for NFL Figures. All right, welcome back. This is crazy. You guys may have noticed that I have this weird propensity to be randomly connected to well-known figures across various disciplines.I.

[00:38:19]

Haven't noticed this yet.Yeah.I do.Fine, Dan.We.

[00:38:23]

Know.we've noticed.It's popped up.

[00:38:25]

You have a connection to you two, to a soccer team.

[00:38:29]

Here and there, it just pops up. Not anything that through ambition. It just happens sometimes. It's cool. The latest example, of course, being Shalind Patel, new owner of West Bram, Bling Bling. Let's go.

[00:38:44]

Boing Boing. Is Bling Bling was.

[00:38:46]

It is Bling Bling. Bg. We're new.

[00:38:47]

We're new in our fandom.Cash Money Records.We're.

[00:38:50]

Working on. John was like, Is Bling Bling something on the pod that they do? And I was like, Not that I know of. Not yet, at least. No, Bling Bling. But maybe.Yeah.

[00:38:57]

Not that I know of, not yet.No, Boing Boing. No, Bling Boing. But maybe. Not Bling Bling.

[00:39:03]

Bling Boing Boing is It's a West Brom thing. Right. West Bram. Maybe we can bring Bling Bling back, though.

[00:39:09]

Did it leave? It's a jam. It's still in the mix a little. It's the song. Oh, the song itself. We can't play songs on this show. But anyway. Anyway, I got another, and this one's really weird, and I'm surprised I never brought him up before.

[00:39:25]

His name is Wilhelm von Tufelheimer.He's.

[00:39:27]

A prominent doctor.This.

[00:39:28]

Is not a Sessler character that's made up? That is happening there. He's a prominent doctor doctor and scientist of unknown origins, and he has—I've been made aware because we caught up recently. He's developed a serum. It should be in very early clinical trials because we really don't know what the effects are long term or even midterm or even short term. Sounds dangerous.

[00:39:51]

However, Wilhelm isn't thought to be doing very well.

[00:39:54]

I think he's He's basically fast-tracking it because he's trying to beat the big deadline in the sky.Put it that way. Will this serum cure himself? Cure whatever is ailing him?

[00:40:05]

I don't think truth is going to help him physiologically. I'm just saying he's getting older.

[00:40:10]

I don't know him well, but it's just like one of those weird connections. Anyway, he-Let's get this patented. Let's get this thing rolling.

[00:40:18]

Yeah, he wants to see his life. They've done that with other serums in the past couple of years.

[00:40:25]

Let's get this thing rolling.

[00:40:27]

It's right. Yeah. With that said, he's going to come in here a little bit later. Just be aware. Okay. Wilhelm is. Ball in line, Rosenthal. Here we go.

[00:40:37]

Let's get into it.

[00:40:38]

We're going to have some key figures in the NFL. All right. Reagencies coming up, a new season is coming up, crazy offseason, and a press conference here, and hopefully, we'll get some real answers. Got it? Yes. Are we good, Greg? I think that makes sense. All right, let's start. Let's welcome in someone that everyone knows well, Baker Mayfield. Baker Mayfield, obviously, has a big week coming up for him. If you want to open up the floor to questions, go for it. Yeah, I'll start. How about this, Baker? You said through maybe your intermediaries, there was some reporting that you wanted to have a chance to win a championship.

[00:41:17]

Would you be willing to maybe take less money to stay in Tampa after they helped resurrect your career here? It's been incredible run in Tampa. They welcomed me in last year and gave me an opportunity to start. That means a lot to me, and I love it there. My family loves it there. Homes town discounts, I think they call them.

[00:41:40]

I don't know about that, but I'm very excited to be part of the free agent process, but also I love Tampa. Thanks, Baker. Inside this vial is a miracle. What? Truth Serum. They say it does not exist, but I assure you my lab has proven them all wrong. I've got to stop smoking. That could be a factor. How? Listen, man, I'm terrified. Baker, me. I'm terrified. I know I stumbled into the perfect place to spend the rest of my NFL year as a place where I could be myself, a place where I could be a slightly less productive but more likable version of Derek Carr, the people of Tampa, They're okay with me being me.

[00:42:21]

Just let me chill here for another five or six years. I'll throw for like 35, 100 yards and 26 touch downs. We'll go 8, 9 or 9, 8 every year, ups and downs, but It's the NFC South, and this is my speed.

[00:42:37]

Even the idea of going to Atlanta, which obviously is also in the NFC South, where there are actual real expectations to improve after some failure there at the quarterback position, I'm not into I'm just not into the pressure anymore. I was the number one overall pick, you might remember, of the Cleveland Browns. I had some success there. Do you remember after I won a playoff game there the next year, a lot of people were picking the Browns with me as the quarterback to go to the Super Bowl. Do you have any idea the amount of pressure to be in that spot? I've been there. I've done that. I'm out. I'm done. And don't even get me started on this report out there, this Fekakta report about me going to the Patriots. I'd rather you throw a harpoon clear through my chest than go and freeze up in New England and get my ass kicked for four months. No, man. Nfc South, the Bucks, That's my speed. Let's get it done. That classic Baker confidence that we've come to know is in full force, apparently within. Well, I have a question at this press conference. Sure.

[00:43:46]

Baker, do you see a future as as a big-time endorser moving forward? You say you want the less pressure, but isn't a big contract going to be a lot of pressure no matter where it is? And do you want those progressive ads back? Because you're a hell of an actor. Thank you for bringing up the progressive ads because that's what this is ultimately about. I need to be just good enough to hang around for about a half dozen years to reestablish my brand fully with the progressive ads being my main goal to get back into that game.

[00:44:22]

Same ad campaign, but this time in that dopey stadium with the pirate ship.

[00:44:26]

That's it. Let's imagine a world bigger where that ship has sailed into the distance. You're about to become a dad. Congratulations on that. Are you doing the parent thing where you're down shifting the focus on career and you're trying to do the safest possible thing?

[00:44:43]

This doesn't feel like the Baker that I've known in the past where it's like you got the chip on the shoulder, you're shooting for the stars. Instead, you're just Tampa works. No, and I understand. And Mark, good to see you. I know you have an affinity for me. Even though I'm not seen as a man with major financial clout, I'm incredibly rich.

[00:45:05]

The kid is cool, and I got a wife and an au pair and all sorts of help. I'm all about football. I'm making money right now, so that's the answer. But it's just hanging around, and I think that's enough for me. But thank you for having me on.

[00:45:23]

I don't really want to be here, but it was part of my media engagement. Just one more quick question. Oh, yes. Where are you on the Creamsicle jerseys and the actual cannons that are fired from that ship? Where am I? Yeah, just in your head space right now. They're fine. It's like a 6 out of 10 in my mind. They're fine. Okay. All right. Thank you, Baker. All right, there he goes. It's so refreshing to hear-It's so much truth.to hear how people feel. I'm beginning to think, what's his name again?

[00:45:56]

The doctor? Wilhelm? Dr. Wilhelm von Tufelhammer. The efficacy of his injection was incredible and immediate when he came in that room. After effects? We know the side effect.

[00:46:06]

We won't know for a long time.

[00:46:08]

All right, Colin, who's the next person coming in?

[00:46:11]

Okay, next person is Gerard Mayo. Gerard Mayo. Wow. New head coach of the New England Patriot. Yes. Mr. Mayo, I guess we'll start here. Do you feel like you have big shoes to fill?

[00:46:23]

Is there an intimidation level in terms of replacing a giant like Belichick?

[00:46:28]

Well, if I was someone who got intimidated, I wouldn't be here.

[00:46:32]

My confidence has brought me to this spot in New England, and I feel really good about where we're at, the future ahead, the transition that we're going to go through as well.

[00:46:44]

I see you are afraid of me, my dear.

[00:46:47]

Well, there is nothing to be afraid of.

[00:46:50]

Are you sure? Are you okay? Oh, come on. He's not well. Am I going to get whatever you have? There's nothing to be afraid of just a little pin. Sure? Yes, that's right. Let the serum do its bidding. As you were saying, Mr. Bell. Come on, man. Listen, I don't know what was in that injection, but I'll tell you what, I've been having some night tears.

[00:47:13]

I've been having night tears every night, and it's Belichick. I thought that we were all on the same page when I said that we're ready to burn some cash.

[00:47:24]

Apparently, that was just me that was ready to burn some cash. But I think the entire organization should be ready to burn some cash in free agency.

[00:47:34]

We need to make a lot of moves around here. And if this is my first season with New England, it better be successful. We need some wide receivers.

[00:47:44]

We probably need a tight end.

[00:47:46]

We need so many things that I don't even have enough time to talk about it right now.

[00:47:52]

The legacy that has been left behind, those shoes are so hard to fill.

[00:47:57]

I'm not sure how it's going to get done, but I'm just crossing my fingers at this point and hoping that it all goes well.

[00:48:06]

Well, do you feel like there's extra pressure on you to even be anything close to Bill Belichick? Or are you riding and willing to be your own guy? You've talked about a culture change. It sounds like your head's a miss right now. I would be lying if I didn't say that I felt very stressed out and a lot of anxiety in every conversation. Seems like the world is maybe crumbling down, but I do see a lot of hope ahead, too. I'm really positive about where this team is heading. And Elliott Wolf, I'm hoping that he wants to burn some cash because that's really the main priority here. We have $88 million in cap space, but yeah, I'm I'm real stressed out about what the future holds in the AFC East and in Foxborough in general, guys.

[00:48:55]

You're set up to fail, it almost sounds like. I hope not. I hope that I wasn't brought in here to fail, Dan Hansis, because that would be real bad.

[00:49:05]

Talk about it. That'd be real bad. You really gave a recovering Patriots fan like me some confidence with the way you carried yourself in your opening press conferences. This change has me worried. Even the phrase burning cash has me worried. Any concern about, for instance, a couple of years ago, the Patriots went into free agency. They spent a lot of money. Everyone was all excited. And then they got three solid years of Hunter Henry and not much else? Can you really fix a team in free agency? You know, Greg, that's something that we're going to find out very soon, and we sure hope so. It seems like at times that it can't get any worse, that it can only go up from here after for what's happened with Mac and how Bill left the state of things here in New England.

[00:49:56]

But we're going to have to just hope and pray. And if you have a blessed mother, put her in the window. All right. Well, thank you very much, Mr. Mayo. No problem. What was in this? Give me a drink. Yeah, let's get them hydrated immediately. That was concerning. Let's get them off their feet and hydrated. I could feel his stress.

[00:50:18]

The anxiety was pouring off Gerard as well. Totally. Totally. All from Gerard. Up next, Greg is who? Brian Dable is going to be... Yes. The Giants entering his third year as head coach. First year. Well, let me ask you, Brian. First year could not have gone better. I mean, not only did the Giants make the playoff, that was a surprise. I was the man.

[00:50:41]

Yeah, you want to-Toaster, New York.

[00:50:43]

You were supposed to win. You were supposed to have a good second season as well.

[00:50:49]

It didn't go that way. Where's your head space at? Do you believe in this team getting back on the winning track in 24? Yeah, we always looked at this as a three-year building plan.

[00:51:01]

That's what you do when you come in, me and Joshaen from Buffalo.

[00:51:05]

We've been slowly adding pieces and pointing towards year three is when it's really our team. Watch out. Yes. My next patient. Hold out your arm, please. This won't hurt very much. Wait, is this Dracula? Excuse me. You may feel A little bit strange. Dracula lives forever. I'm not sure this guy is.

[00:51:24]

He's very ill.

[00:51:25]

But trust it, there is no fight in the effects. As you were saying, Brian. Get him a handkerchief. Oh, God. This cough is killing me. Man, I haven't felt like this since NFL honors a couple of years ago.

[00:51:39]

Remember that? That was great. Look at all days. Top of the world. Now I'm just collecting a paycheck. What are we doing here? Brian, do you have any regrets about signing Daniel Jones last season over Saquon Barkley? I mean, regrets.

[00:51:54]

I never I wanted to do it in the first place.

[00:51:58]

This was all from upstairs. We got our headline. Good job, Colin. Oh, the Tiffany franchise of New York, New York Giants.

[00:52:05]

We treat our quarterbacks well as long as they vaguely resemble Eli Manning.

[00:52:10]

Why did we give him this contract? We're locked into it.

[00:52:14]

It's $40 million. I got Joe Shane here.

[00:52:16]

I thought he was...

[00:52:18]

He said, We're going to be like Buffalo. You know what Buffalo did their first few years? They signed a bunch of great free and made a bunch of great draft pics.

[00:52:29]

Who we got?

[00:52:30]

We got Darren Waller.

[00:52:31]

Are you playing for me this year?

[00:52:34]

Who's on our defense?

[00:52:35]

It took me half the season just to get over Wink Martindale trying to bury me to reporters. I'm a mess right now.

[00:52:43]

Give me some players.

[00:52:45]

Who's our defensive coordinator? Literally. Does anyone know who our defensive coordinator is? Shane Bowen.

[00:52:50]

Does he have a wiki page? While we have you in the state, I have to ask you, would you consider yourself with the Big or Small Spoon?

[00:53:00]

Very good. Have you seen me? Of course, I'm the Big Spoon.

[00:53:04]

I'm Dable. Come on. You would have thought...

[00:53:06]

What do you think of Kavon Thibodeau? He seems like a very outspoken player and productive, no doubt, but what do you think about him ultimately? A good guy. He was a good pick. Nice pass, Rusher. We need more people like him. I also like his entire just media strategy. He seems to have a great feel of Who do I talk to? Who do I make my media friend? And who do I consider an enemy? Like that guy. Anything else you'd like to add, Bri? I just need players. Saquon was one of our only great players, right? He was great. Okay, we got Andrew Thomas. We got Saquon, and so we've got two players, right? Oh, so let's not keep one of those two. Oh, we got Dexter Lawrence. Okay. But that was a Dave Gettelman pick.

[00:53:55]

Give me some pics. Give I need some players, Joe Shane. I want to see it because I'm just out there coaching my ass off, turning Darius Slate into a wide receiver one.

[00:54:07]

And Wanda Robinson, I need some more players. What's your record this year? You got to guess. Not feeling good right now. If we can nail the next few weeks, maybe we can scratch out eight or nine wins, but we got to nail the next couple of weeks if Joe helps me.

[00:54:25]

I'm doing a great job coaching. Brian, we want to apologize in advance, both for the potential devastating after effects of that injection and also what the New York media is about to do to you.Wait, this is public?Bye-bye. There he goes. Sounds like he needs a vacation. That does sound like he needs a vacation. All right, Mark, who else is joining us? All right. I am part of the Fox number one broadcasting team, Greg Olson. Oh, very nice.Oh, wow. All right. I mean, this is... He's doing, Greg, you've really proven Proving yourself to be one of the very best in the... Excuse me. Yeah, Greg. You looked at him. I know. Well, his name is Greg. He threw me off.

[00:55:09]

Greg Olson, you have proven yourself to be at the top of your game.

[00:55:13]

Of course, how does it feel this Tom braided situation hanging over everything as we enter a new year? I've been doing this for a certain amount of time. I've grown to love the job.

[00:55:26]

I would say that, number one, I've always been a team player, whether it was on the field at Fox. I have a philosophical approach to just go out there and call the very best game that you possibly can.

[00:55:40]

This just one tiny pin break in your vein.

[00:55:42]

Stay still. Who's this guy? Stay still. Who loves the truth locked inside your brain?

[00:55:48]

We're going to be pouring out. All right, go on. Tom braided. Can somebody get this guy some help?

[00:55:55]

Can we get this guy some water? Call a doctor. Lozange. You need more than a lozange, my Can people not see the parallel? That I came in as an unknown into the broadcasting booth, and I have been a crystal clear technical lighthouse from the word go. You got Tom braided. I'm sorry. Did you say a crystal clear technical lighthouse? Absolutely. When I speak about football-That truth serum's got some good stuff in it.

[00:56:21]

I teach people about football in a way that... You know what? Just because you played quarterback doesn't mean it works. Tom braided spent his whole career telling us and whining about where he was drafted and who he became. Agree.

[00:56:35]

Greatest quarterback of all time. But I just would like to reform you that go back to someone like Johnny Unitas that had that his time and the greatest quarterback career, came in and failed in the booth, famously.

[00:56:49]

How about Bill Walsh, who everyone thought was the smartest coach of all time?

[00:56:54]

Super ultra boar fest, snooze fest on air.

[00:56:56]

You tell me one time that Tom braided has ever truly made you laugh because of a genuine attachment to wit.

[00:57:03]

We're just going to come in here and throw me down to the Joe Davis Daryl Johnston spot. Number two, you're going to pair me with someone else, and Tom braided is going to just get handed this massive multimillion dollar deal, and people everywhere are going to be saying, What happened to the great Burkart Olson pairing that would have been here and should have been here for 25 years, this will go down as the biggest mistake in network television history. Greg Olson, when you think about Tom braided, and obviously, you've really just outlined how you feel about him, but how quickly do you think he will be able to catch on to this craft, having gone through this yourself? Well, I don't know. Did I need an entire year to sit in my den crafting concept of how I might announce? No, I just went and did it right away. So how long it will take him to catch on? So far, the track record is not promising. You literally were still in the NFL the first time that you did it. Of course, as you know, I think it was like a buy week for the Panthers.

[00:58:14]

I've always been impressed with you, Greg, fellow Greg, not Greg Olson. You are Greg Olson.

[00:58:19]

We saw you in Las Vegas. You just looked like a man who's- Have a good time.one at life that is always winning. How does it sit with you to lose this power struggle? And will you respond by trying to get a number one job maybe at another network like Amazon?

[00:58:38]

Greg, I appreciate the question. Greg Rosenthal. Greg Rosenthal. Anything is on the table. I do recall seeing the couple of you in Vegas, and I think that you noticed that I was beautiful and powerful in that casino, that I stood out as a human being.

[00:58:54]

Yes, you really did. I will not stop being in that, whether it's at Fox or elsewhere, parts unknown. White cis male, hetero. I was taken aback by almost a statue of a man just standing in that casino. It was an honor to run into you and say hello to you. The Mark Sesler character who's not here also stood out as someone that really understands broadcasting like the two of you.

[00:59:19]

I think you can see that my argument is It's pristine. It is powerful. It is based in reality. A technical lighthouse. Technical lighthouse. Absolutely. Well, good luck to you. I don't need luck. Love it. Love that guy. I absolutely love that. Givefim, truth, fear him truth serum all the time. Well, let's see how the body and mind reacts.

[00:59:40]

How long does it stay with you? We don't know, Colleen. You don't know when it wears off?

[00:59:47]

This could be a whole new seventh floor crew raps coming out of Greg Olson after this. Greg stated efficacy off the charts, obviously. I thought we were assured that it would be safe forever. There's no questions. No, sorry. You could leave, Greg. Olson. Good luck to you.

[01:00:04]

And just realize this was for science, ultimately. We'll see how it plays out. All right, let's take a break, and we'll be right back. All right, welcome back.

[01:00:14]

A little bit of news that just came across here.

[01:00:17]

The bills are working to get under the cap.

[01:00:21]

This is from Rapsheet, and they make the move to release.

[01:00:24]

I thought we were done with the good doctor. He's still here? I thought he'd be at the hospital by now.

[01:00:31]

He's interrupting the breaking news. How much serum does he have?

[01:00:36]

Don't I understand you are to be a very special case?

[01:00:39]

Who's that? The Cess Dog, as you are known. Oh, yes, Mr. Cess Dog. You are so mysterious until my true serum is injected in your veins, that is. The good doctor. Every time he laughs. He's got to stop laughing. Come on, man. This cough is ridiculous. Wow. We got the Serum and Sesler. Wow. What an opportunity this is. Is It does not feel workplace fair. Does anybody want to... Do you have a question? I would love you to start. Mark has turned Ashton. Mark, I guess I'll just start with a little bit of a softball.

[01:01:14]

How are you feeling right Now, after the serum, what are you afraid of?

[01:01:19]

What are you afraid of? I don't know what's just been injected into my body, but I am starting to feel concerned about just the wine mental processing over the last couple of seconds. I got one. Do you to be here right now? For another 10 minutes tops. In what sense? Here on the Earth. Longer on the Earth. Do you have any plans to leave the country in the next six weeks?

[01:01:44]

Well, when I make plans, they just come out of thin air, so it's a total possibility. Not currently on the map. There's a work trip to Mexico with a bunch of people that we were not invited to because we're too old.

[01:02:00]

That's true. Not even approached.

[01:02:01]

Okay, well, then you can You can plan your own one.

[01:02:05]

Where would you go? If you could go anywhere right this minute after the show. Work doesn't even matter. It doesn't even exist anymore. Money doesn't matter. It doesn't exist. Where would you go?In Mexico or worldwide?Anywhere.

[01:02:18]

But you have to decide in the next couple of seconds, and you have to stay there.I go to Belgium. You have to go to Belgium. And never return.I.

[01:02:27]

Never return. Greg, this is an opportunity for you right here. Yeah.

[01:02:31]

Time's running out. The Serum only has a half life of minutes. Okay, your Brown's Fandam. Are you just going to keep Keep wishy.

[01:02:40]

Let's be real. I need certain things to change, but I felt it during the Flacko run.

[01:02:46]

I really did. The change I needed happened during the Flacko run. I can return to anything. You're back to good. I'm about forgiving. I'm about rethinking certain things, but certain things they've done made it tough for me to sign up when you have to talk about it all the time on a show.

[01:03:05]

You're back. No strings attached. Not necessarily. No, I'm outside the door looking through a door with a little bit of that. It felt like you were back, though. Like a prison? Yeah. Drafting them week after week before Flacko.

[01:03:19]

If your Serum is meeting its toughest match yet.

[01:03:22]

If Flacko, if there is interest between Flacko and the girl.

[01:03:26]

Dr. Wilhelm, you've met your match. Okay, before that Serum runs out, let's go like me, Greg Rosenthal.

[01:03:32]

Yeah. Pros, cons. Give me some of that. You have been a genuine friend to me. You're someone that I've looked up to from a career angle. I think when we go out on the town Sometimes we go to our places where we used to go with Wes. We have a great time. For some reason, I'm more interested in the cons, frankly. Only the cons. That just says something about me. The doctor has met us mad. Truly. All right.

[01:04:01]

I think it wore off now. I'm sorry doing that.

[01:04:04]

Again, that was an unfair thing to do.

[01:04:07]

I would say, from what I recall of it, they weren't all softballs, but you could have gone...

[01:04:13]

You could have asked tougher questions that would have put me in a real... It already felt like a Frankly, a dick move to pump this potential poison into you.

[01:04:23]

So I didn't want to double down. No, I think you were all very gentle to me, actually. The look on your face and everyone should check out our YouTube.

[01:04:34]

I don't know if... I guess they can't really zoom in on their phone, but the look on your face when the realization of the serum was coming, it was going to haunt me.

[01:04:46]

I didn't know what was going to happen.

[01:04:48]

It's actually... It was perfect. I think it's a credit to the good doctor that we've created such a real feel world that It did sense for just a flash that you thought it was actually happening.

[01:05:01]

Yeah, because I... Yes, I did. I also love that Dan called for a doctor for the doctor at one point during the show, too.

[01:05:10]

The little doctor on doctor. It's like when Dave Damosheck is fascinated by tow trucks being towed by tow truck. What? It's a thing. All right.

[01:05:19]

Yeah, back to the breaking news.

[01:05:21]

We needed to get this one in the show because Eric Roberts demanded it, but it's important.

[01:05:27]

The bills are working to get under the cap, so they say goodbye to safety Jordan Poeyer.

[01:05:33]

His cap number was seven and a half million.

[01:05:36]

This is from Rapsheet. Poeyer, he's a piece of that defense and a pretty big one, Greggy.

[01:05:42]

Now, let's see, maybe he rejoins the team on a different deal, but he's headed to free agency. Where is he on the one-on-one? Good question. He's an older safety that's not helping him. There's a lot safeties out there. I think, though, this is more significant, and Bills fans will get this, but for the average fan, to me, this Bills run starts with Jordan Poeyer and Micah Hyde, which is interesting. We were just listening to the press conference of Dable, of what a great job the Bills did when McDermott got there. And part of it was they got these culture centers right off the bat in this tandem. And they did a press conference after the last playoff game for the Bills.

[01:06:26]

And I thought that might have been a sign that they were on their way out. Micah Hyde is reportedly considering retiring. He is on the 101, but to me, it might be a little bit of an end of an era for the Bills, and they're sneaky in a lot of cap struggles, so there might be more big moves to come. It'll open an opportunity for Demar Hamill in there. Is he under contract? He's pissed off Bills fans because he put out a quote saying that it would be the highlight of his life to retire with the Steelers. He's a pit guy. He's under contract currently? Is he said to be a free agent? Are we allowed to be allowed to be upset with him at this point? Yeah, dude.

[01:07:12]

Well, he got the truth serum, obviously. Bill's fans are pissed. They're like, Oh, good riddance.

[01:07:18]

See you later. Because he said, Yeah, it would be like a dream of his. Is he a free agent to be?

[01:07:26]

I'm not entirely sure. Because that's a very strange thing to say.

[01:07:30]

I don't think so. In his probably best case scenario, he'd be like a third safety.

[01:07:35]

He's a pit guy. He went to pay. He's from Pittsburgh, so it makes sense.

[01:07:41]

But yeah. Did Dr.

[01:07:42]

Wilhelm von Tuffelhammer got to-Got to him. We don't need to... Let's leave. I will say one. We don't need to be testing DeMar Hamlin's body.

[01:07:51]

It's fine.

[01:07:52]

For this team that still considers themselves like a Super Bowl contender, before this move, they're 42 million in the red.

[01:07:59]

No team has a bigger cap health situation.

[01:08:02]

Oh, my God. I think they have tough for decisions ahead. That Von Miller deal really hurt them. I don't think they're going to get rid of Von Miller necessarily because he has so much guaranteed money.

[01:08:15]

You might as well just see what he looks like in August if you're not saving any money by getting rid of him. I don't know what they're going to do with the safety position.

[01:08:27]

Those two have been there for seven years.

[01:08:29]

Yeah. Demar Hamlin is not under contract.

[01:08:32]

There you go.

[01:08:33]

The circling back to-Oh, after this year. I'm sorry. After this year.

[01:08:37]

One more year. Tuftlehammer got him. Because I guess the Broncos, knowing the devastation of the Cap-Hit, could have done the same thing with Russ, right? Because in the way that Von Miller, if they had the power, they would say bye-bye, but they're like, We're going to get killed either way.

[01:08:55]

No, because he doesn't like Russell. Well, no, because they would have owed him even more guaranteed money in a couple of weeks. That's That's not the case with Von. That contract, which had 120 million guaranteed for Russ. No, Von is getting that money either way, and it doesn't really help him cap space.

[01:09:14]

It makes sense. They still might cut him, I think, just because it's not working. But also the off-the-field stuff has also tarnished him more. There's just some layers to the Vawn thing.

[01:09:26]

All right. Big year coming up for those Buffalo bills.

[01:09:29]

Diggs is a question, Mario. A lot going on. You know what, Eric? Big A year coming up. Oh, yeah. About a truth serum to a father to me because there is... I found, for all the incredible amount of excitement and anticipation, when you're becoming a parent, there is that other stuff like, Oh, my life is never going to be the same. I'm going to miss hanging out with my boys and being free. Steer clear of the good doctor.

[01:09:58]

Yeah. We don't need...

[01:09:59]

Your wife doesn't want to hear that. Eric seems relatively sunny about the whole situation. Yeah, I'm I'm older. I'm 32.

[01:10:07]

I'm actually... Dude, I can't wait to have the sorry, the babies at home excuse to not have to go out with people. Perfect. A perfect man. Ladies and gentlemen, the perfect man. There we go.

[01:10:19]

Round of applause. All right.

[01:10:21]

Bunk, have you done any... Behind the glass, have you done any... Child rearing. Have you done any research yet on the I am afraid of no bears modification to your unfortunate tattoo?

[01:10:32]

As So everything okay over there? I dropped a 10 of some liquid over there.

[01:10:37]

My bad, guys. My bad. No, we're good. I have not actually, but I figured it won't be too hard. It's a circle on a line. What do we think? Are we going to cover this?

[01:10:50]

We'll cover this?

[01:10:51]

Well, Greg said he had a lead.

[01:10:53]

Oh, yeah.

[01:10:54]

Do Do you want to hook him up with that? Tattoo artist, area tattoo artist? Yeah.

[01:11:00]

That doesn't sound too expensive.

[01:11:02]

I don't think it would be too crazy.

[01:11:04]

We'll cover it. We're going to cover it.Coleen's going to check.Are.

[01:11:08]

You going to do it on the show?

[01:11:11]

Can we get the artist in here? I don't know. I'm notWe're not looking to turn it into a stunt.We.

[01:11:18]

Could also film it. We're no shop shop.

[01:11:21]

I think the answer is definitely no. You can't get it.

[01:11:25]

We're going to have people call in.

[01:11:27]

We're going to be giving away tattoos.

[01:11:29]

She can't be doing tattoos here.

[01:11:32]

That's just not how it works.

[01:11:34]

Hey, this is Anthony from Regal Park. I don't think he should touch a tattoo. It's part of his legacy as a man.

[01:11:42]

There's health regulation.I'll hang up and listen. And all sorts of stuff.

[01:11:46]

We all have a person a journey. What's a woman? Emily Eiffler. Check her out. She's great. Nice plug. All right. Anything else? Is that who did yours? Done a few, yeah. Okay. Look that one up. Emily Eiffler. I like it. All right. We are back on Thursday.

[01:12:03]

Colleen, you've said it all. I truly have today. I think so. Today, compared to any other show.

[01:12:09]

Is there a reason why, and I don't like to do the Greg thing and look at other people's laptops, but you have what looks to be an aerial overhead, almost like a U2 spy plane look at an airport or an Air Force base. What are you doing? Get the serum back in here. What is happening on here? This is just a screen saver. Oh, my God. It's actually in Belgium. Funny enough. There we are. That just randomly-They're all listening to us now.

[01:12:39]

It's a Belgian airport is my screen saver right now for some reason. I like planes. You guys know that. I'm going to have to get CIA on this one. Fbi. All right, we'll be back Thursday. Like you said, we're going to really last look at the free agency landscape before next week with Mina Kimes. Until Thank you, Wilhelm. You know what you need to do. See you, doctor. He's the call. Yes. Another successful Serum de You heard experiment.

[01:13:08]

And now a little taste for the doctor.

[01:13:10]

It just shoot this into my non-vains.

[01:13:13]

Let's tell man. The truth is, Dan Hanses is the sexiest podcast host in the world.

[01:13:18]

I need to work on my will.
